The House of Representatives has called on the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, JAMB to extend the registration deadline for the
registration of 2017 UTME.
This came after the motion raised by Danburan Nuhu (Kano-APC).
According to Mr. Nuhu during the 2016 UTME exercise, about 1.6 million
applicants registered for the UTME and about one million passed. He
stated that the 2017 exercise might reach 2 million across the country
given the growing number of applicants.
He noted that some of the approved registration centres are registering
only 250 applicants at a time; most of them do not have enough space and
adequate number of computers.
He urged JAMB to specify the requirements including safety measures,
that approved centres need to have to participate in the conduct of UTME
Computer Based Test and ensure to deploy safety equipment to each
centre to forestall any incidence of stampede due to overcrowding.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the House and the committee on
basic education was mandated to direct JAMB to comply with the
resolutions.
The JAMB had earlier stated that it has no plans of extending the
registration deadline but with this development, let's watch how it all
plays out.
